I took these photos with my phone
on a stunning late summer afternoon.
We are seeing more and more security gates
protecting homes and the people who live in them.
Sadly it's the inevitable result of increasing population
and higher density housing
in a growing city of 1.7 million people.
I grew up in a small country town
where we didn't even lock our doors.
The crime rate was non existant back then.
Sadly that is not the case anymore.
I'm joining Tex for Good Fences
Thank you for your visits
Take care and
be kind to one another
à bientôt
Shane
Nice area. The divide between who has and who doesn't gets bigger. More people, less jobs. It's a shame there's not more equality in all areas of life. Best wishes, Tammy
ReplyDeleteSad to say it is increasingly 'normal' to see security fences and gates springing up. Though I have to say these are very lovely homes and properties and the stonework is just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Easter!
More people, less world. It's a theme...
ReplyDeleteGood you have some brilliant weather for photos, though.
;-)
I grew up in NYC and our doors were seldom locked. Children played outside without their parents hovering around them and neighbors knew each other. Times changed and fences, both iron and in the hearts and minds of people, are the norm today. Fear does that.
ReplyDeleteit is true. much has changed but these are beautiful, too. :)
ReplyDeleteYes we will all help each other survive this huge change in our world order. I so appreciate your visit and kind words on my Soulful Friday post last week. I pray everyday not to be cynical but after living so many years it is so apparent what is happening. That is where we know we have faith or not. It heals my heart much to find folks all over the world who share my experience. Blessings to you and yours. Your post is beautiful today.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos. We all have to be extra careful now day. I got your nice birthday card and I want to thank you very much. The dried flower and pedal you enclosed was very nice. Have a blessed day. Madeline
ReplyDeleteHello!:) It's a simple but stylish gate, appropriate for a town house, and I love the colour of the stone walls.
ReplyDeleteNice looking gates. I like the stonework next to them. Yes times have changed and security is needed for sure in places we never dreamed we'd need it.
ReplyDeleteLove the stonework in the pilars. Have a HAPPY EASTER.
ReplyDeleteShane ~ wonderful photography of rather elegant fences and gated communities ~ sadly a 'sign of the times' ~
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend coming to you ~ ^_^
They look very nice but it is sad that you need that to feel secure. Enjoy your day sweet friend. Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteThat is a very stylish fence/gate isn't it! xx
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty stone wall with a fine gate. Times certainly have changed and, all too often, not for the better.
ReplyDeleteThere is sadness in this all over the world. It looks like a very nice home behind that fence.
ReplyDeleteDear Shane,
ReplyDeletejust wish you a peaceful Easter.
My only wish is peace on earth for everyone. This terror in Europe is horrible, we have to stop that anyway.
Best wishes for you, Barbara xx
Is this at home in NZ? I think of NZ as safer than average; should have guessed there is sin, fear, and trouble everywhere. Thankfully it doesn't have to dwell in our hearts!
ReplyDeleteIf one must have fences and gates, these are pretty ones. It's a sad world we live in, isn't it? Yet there is beauty, too, and goodness in many people's hearts.
ReplyDeleteBlessed Easter to you, Shane, and your family.
Your photographs are always so inspiring, my darling Shane !
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a blessed week, I wish you a Happy Easter celebration,
with sincere gratitude
Dany
Yes, times have indeed changed. I am far more cautious about security these days, and don't open my security door when strangers knock. Like you, I grew up in a country town, and the only time the house was locked was when we went on our annual holiday. Then it was a big rush to find the never-used keys! The fence and gates you show are very attractive, quite elegant, for a city house. Happy Easter Shane xx
ReplyDeleteYou're right -- that WAS a stunning afternoon! Really a beautiful spot, a true haven!
ReplyDeleteI like the gray of the stone and building, must be so pretty against the flowers. Happy Easter!

Dear Shane, it is all the same here. Even this little island of about 40.000 people has changes, from none crimes whatsoever, not locked doors, as you also tell, no stealing or worse.
ReplyDeleteBut now, all closes their doors, even when close by in the garden, and we have lots of cages of violence and burglaries , a sad world we are living in, don`t you agree.
The fences shown are very beautiful, though, but it would be a better world, if not needing them !!
I wish you a Happy Easter, dear.
Hugs,Dorthe
Dearest Shane,
ReplyDeleteLovely gates you show us here.
Yes, it is necessary and we live in a world where the educated people are being far outnumbered by all sorts of. Quite a number of irresponsible people fill up our present society. They don't add to society but only feel entitled to receiving and don't mind taking it from others...
Happy Easter Weekend!
Hugs,
Mariette
