Red on the Northern Motorway

On a recent trip up north we followed
this old classic Chevrolet.....
we followed and followed.....
(boys and their cars)!

My husband was fascinated with it
as his younger brother had a Chevvy
like this when they were in their twenties.
I guess it took him back to those carefree days!

Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, France

When I visit my family in France
I enjoy wandering through the side streets
of the smaller towns in the vicinity of their little village.

Getting off the beaten track
provides opportunities to chat to the locals
like the shopkeepers and cafe owners.
Mainly, we discuss the weather,
the ups and downs of business
and the government.
The french spend a lot of time discussing the
state of the country and the economy.
No different to us really!

The photo above is of the indoor market
in one of the larger towns.
The detailed tiling patterns are seen throughout
the Burgundy region.

Touches of Red

My eye is always drawn to red

I love red touches in decorating

and as accessories like a pashmina

or these burgundy suede brogues.

Are you partial to touches of red too?

Anzac Day 2016

Anzac Day occurs on the 26th April.
It marks the anniversary of the landing of the
Australian and New Zealand soldiers
known as the
ANZACS
on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey
during the First World War in 1915.

On this day we commemorate all New Zealanders
and Australians
killed in war and we honour
our returned servicemen and women.

The War Memorial Museum
is the venue for our
Anzac Day Memorial Service in Auckland.

There are services in every city and small town
throughout New Zealand
and Australia.

Views of Auckland Waterfront

With the lovely weather over Easter
we visited the waterfront and viaduct harbour.
There were a few clouds about
but with the temperature at 28°C
we had an enjoyable walk.

It's now early Autumn and in a month or two
the days will start to draw in.
This weekend on Sunday 3rd April
Daylight Saving finishes.......
I'm thankful for such a magnificent summer
it has truly been one out of the box!

Wishing everyone, everywhere
your best summer ever too!

The Louis Vuitton Cup

The Louis Vuitton Cup
was won by New Zealand on three occasions.

This yachting cup
decided who would be the challenger for
the Americas Cup yacht race.

I took this photo back in 2013 at
The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron
where it was proudly on display
in the trophy room.
My husband was a very keen yachtie
and has been a member of the club for over 40 years.

I snapped this photo on the same day.
It is the Roll of Honour of members
who lost their lives in
World War 1 and World War 2.

Pompallier Mission House

Pompallier Mission, Russell
began in 1938 when the french missionary
Jean Baptiste Pompallier
arrived in New Zealand from France.

This old mission house stands in
beautiful grounds surrounded by well kept gardens
and wonderful old trees.

I love these ties between
France and New Zealand
especially as my daughter travelled to France in 2000.
My three granddaughters are
citizens of la belle France.

The house was built using the old style
construction of rammed earth
which was common in Bishop Pompallier's
home town of Lyon, France.

We were in Russell a few years ago
and spent a wonderful day in the grounds of
Pompallier House for the annual

 Fête de Noël!

It was such a fun day with

french music, language and food!
