Les Invalides Paris

Les Invalides in Paris was commissioned in 1670 by the 
French King Louis X1V
as a hospital for injured soldiers.

Napoléon Bonaparte's ashes are contained

in his tomb beneath the magnificent golden dome.

This is an interesting monument to visit when

you're in Paris.

Our family visited on a beautiful
summer's day last year.
There was something of interest for all ages.

Country in the City

Cornwall Park is an urban working farm

ever changing through the seasons.

For city dwellers

it takes many of us back to our country roots.

Also it's a wonderful "hands on" learning and teaching tool

for both school children and teachers.

Sadly today, many children think milk comes from the

supermarket or dairy.

Saint-Severin Church Paris

Saint-Severin Catholic Church is the oldest church 

on the left Bank of Paris.

 It has beautiful Gothic architecture,

vaulted ceilings and magnificent

stained glass windows.

If you prefer to avoid the crowds at

Notre Dame then I can recommend visiting

Saint Severin instead.

Paris Fences

The Pont Alexandre

is one of the most beautiful bridges in

Paris

It is a great vantage point

to view all manner of boats, barges and 

the Bateau Mouche excursion boats

on the Seine.

Country Fences New Zealand

I spent yesterday in the countryside

meeting with clients.

My job is in the dairy industry

and I love getting out of the office

and meeting them on farm.

It was a balmy Summery day

even though the calendar says differently 

and we are officially in Autumn.

It also gave me the opportunity

to take some photos to share with you here!

Just letting you know I'm still researching cameras

so I'm very interested in your recommendations.

I'm looking for a camera with a great lens

that can capture good detail of a distant landscape

as well as taking close ups 

of flowers, insects and birds.

I know I may need a separate lens for close-ups.

French Village Walls

When I'm with my family in France
we often drive to a neighbouring village
park the car and enjoy an amble through
the little lanes and walkways.
I always have my camera
and snap away at all manner of things that take my eye.
Walls, fences, gates, doors, shutters
winding lanes and gardens.

One of my granddaughters has a small
nature set which includes a magnifying glass,
an insect reference book and pencil.
She has great observation skills
and looks for signs of animals as well as insects,
birds and butterflies.

My father would love to know his great grandie
has an interest in nature as he was a
keen botanist and bird watcher!
When I was young he often took my brothers and I
on hikes in the bush, telling us the names of
birds, trees, plants, mosses and lichens.
As children we weren't that interested and
preferred climbing the trees or playing
hide and seek.
However, as I got older it became an inherant
 part of my life too.

Sandspit Fences

Last weekend we drove north to Sandspit

to see the new marina development.
It was a gorgeous mild Autumn day
I packed a picnic lunch which we enjoyed
after a little walk along the spit.

Marina arms A and B are complete and the

pontoons are currently being manufactured

and floated for C, D and E arms.

Also at Sandspit is a ferry service to Kawau Island

in the Hauraki Gulf.

Kawau is 45km north of Auckland

and is a favourite destination for yachties and boaties

at weekends over the summer months.

Last Thursday I joined two friends for lunch at

 Little Jimmy's

a new cafe at Greenwood's Corner

to celebrate my recent birthday.

On the way home this brick wall caught my eye

and I couldn't resist stopping

to take a few photos.

City Fences

I took these photos with my phone

on a stunning late summer afternoon.

We are seeing more and more security gates

protecting homes and the people who live in them.

Sadly it's the inevitable result of increasing population

and higher density housing

in a growing city of 1.7 million people.

I grew up in a small country town

where we didn't even lock our doors.

The crime rate was non existant back then.

Sadly that is not the case anymore.

New Zealand Summer Farm Fences

We've had a few trips away this Summer

and I take photos out of the car window

as we speed along the country roads!

If we stopped every time I see a photo opportunity

we would never arrive at our destination!!

On this particular pre-Christmas excursion

there was a lot of hay making going on.

Farmers were cutting hay, baling and wrapping it

quickly and efficiently while the weather was fine

just in case the weather changed.

Have you noticed that farmers talk a lot about the weather?

That doesn't surprise me as the weather determines

all activities on the farm.
