Mosaic Monday from Paris

Yes more photos from Paris - from my vast collection on the
numerous trips when I've enjoyed time in this beautiful city!
Today my theme is words - either signs or names on buildings.

This group of photos was taken on the Champs Élysées.
I'm sure it is one of the most recognisable boulevards in the world
with the magnificent Arc de Triomphe at one end

Have you promenaded or strolled along the boulevards?
The french call such a person - Le flaneur
which  means the ‘stroller’, ‘‘saunterer’, ‘loafer’.
It is one of my favourite things to do in Paris
whatever the season - strolling and people watching is always fascinating!

Les Invalides Paris

Les Invalides in Paris was commissioned in 1670 by the
French King Louis X1V
as a hospital for injured soldiers.

Napoléon Bonaparte's ashes are contained

in his tomb beneath the magnificent golden dome.

This is an interesting monument to visit when

you're in Paris.

Our family visited on a beautiful
summer's day last year.
There was something of interest for all ages.

Saint-Severin Church Paris

Saint-Severin Catholic Church is the oldest church
on the left Bank of Paris.

 It has beautiful Gothic architecture,
vaulted ceilings and magnificent
stained glass windows.

If you prefer to avoid the crowds at
Notre Dame then I can recommend visiting
Saint Severin instead.

3, rue des Prêtres Saint-Séverin
near Boulevard Saint-Germain
5e Arrondissement.

Paris Fences

The Pont Alexandre
is one of the most beautiful bridges in
Paris

It is a great vantage point
to view all manner of boats, barges and
the Bateau Mouche excursion boats
on the Seine.

Oh Paris......

Translated the words on the candle read

"You Will Not Kill Our Freedom"

It was left on the pavement
near the scene of the senseless terrorist attack

at the Bataclan Theatre in Paris.

The newspaper's chilling headline translates

"This time it's War"

Words simply cannot describe our feelings
about these horrific happenings.

As my regular readers know
our daughter and her family live in France.

We spoke to her when we heard the news
and she told us everyone is on edge.
The feeling in France is that their border security
has been far too lax in the past.

From what I've heard and read in the news
it seems that Monsieur Hollande
has now taken the necessary steps to address this.
Sadly this is the second such attack on Paris
in 10 months.
I posted about the Charlie Hebdo massacre here

New Zealanders held prayer vigils in towns and cities
across our country
lighting candles and
praying for the 129 people killed
and the 400 plus people injured.

The Auckland Sky Tower
and War Memorial Museum are lit up
in Red, White and Blue in solidarity and respect
for the people of
France

I created this prayer image for my post

following the January terrorist attack in Paris.

Again I ask you to pray for the safety

of my family and every family in France.

Be kind to one another

A visit to Laduree in Paris

On a sunny Sunday in Paris
my daughter and I visited

a beautiful Ladurée shop just off

the Avenue des Champs-Élysées.

It was a magical experience
the decor is exquisite and I could easily imagine
Marie Antoinette frequenting
such establishments had they been there in her day!

Such lavish displays of macarons and chocolates
made it difficult to narrow down my selections
of flavours and boxes!

The only drawback was the throngs of other tourists
with the same idea as me....
but that didn't stop me joining the queue
and eventually my turn came around to be served!

If you are a macaron lover and visiting Paris
then I recommend you
don't miss this treat!

Oh Paris.....

I've no doubt you are all as alarmed as I am
at the horrific and tragic happenings in Paris last week.

It is very sad to see French soldiers on patrol
at Paris monuments
protecting both french citizens and tourists.

On Friday evening at 8pm
the lights of the Tour Eiffel
were turned off for six minutes
in respect for the citizens who died
in the Charlie Hebdo massacre.

Please pray for the families of those who
lost their lives in this atrocious attack.

My regular followers will know how anxious I feel
having members of my family living so close to Paris.
Please keep them in your prayers
asking God to protect them and keep them safe.
Merci.

I am joining Karen for Sunlit Sunday

Karen, I know this isn't a "sunny" post as such
but I would like to share it here as a reminder to us all
of how lucky we are to live simple lives
in our little necks of the woods
far away from the "hot spots" of today's unfathomable world.

I'm also joining Judith for Mosaic Monday.

Take care and
be kind to one another

Merci à bientôt

BONNE FÊTE DES MÈRES

Bonne fête des Mères
to my wonderful blogging friends
here and across the world!!

I've had a brilliant idea....

Would you like to join me for lunch today in
PARIS??
(a virtual lunch you understand)

I've booked our table - the one on the left, at
Le Café du Commerce
51 rue de Commerce
75015 Paris

Oh what a lovely idea..... if only .....
we can dream and let our imaginations
run wild
it is Mother's Day after all!!

Our family had a wonderful Sunday lunch here
two years ago, the last time we were all in Paris together.
The food was superb and the service excellent!

However, Café du Commerce
was more than the food -
it's an experience!
It was built in the 1920's era and has
retained the decor and them of the era.
I imagine some who considered
themselves part of the cafe society
back then, may have even graced it's doors!!

The Sunday we had lunch here, there was a big
family group on the top floor
celebrating a Christening with great
joie de vivre!!

This bistro was a favourite of
my daughter and her husband when
they lived in this quarter -
15th arrondissement.

Dreams are free....yes?

Meantime I'm giving each of you
a virtual bunch of these exquisite peonies
and wishing you all
Bonne fête!!!

Please don't forget to visit the two
Vicki's on my side bar.
They are both having wonderful
GIVEAWAYS.

Vicki Archer has the beautiful blog
and wrote an inspirational book of the same name.

Merci

dear friends

for visiting and expecially

those of you who come by often

and leave me lovely warm comments,

YOU
make it all worthwhile!!
Be kind to one another
hugs and love
Shane xox

Made with love for
my darling granddaughter
JESSIE
for her Christening in June 2012.
