Australian Sojourn

I took the above group of photos at dusk
it was the most beautiful evening
and the light was quite magical.
It's times like this that I wish I had a camera
with a better lens (or two).

I love landscapes
however with my little Point and Shoot
I get limited results.
I would like more definition and I now know
from what Brian told me
it's all about the lens and the range!

I'm in the process of deciding which camera
I should buy, and weighing up the pros and cons.

I've already asked a few of you
who are keen photographers,
for your recommendations and the reason behind
your choice of camera.
Thank you for your feedback so far.

So please let me know if  you think your camera
is a great one - I would love to hear from you.

This is the main street of Maldon, Victoria
at dusk on a Sunday evening
not exactly buzzing - but I love that!
If you're interested you can see
my previous Maldon post here

I'm joining Jeanne for Blue Monday

  3. Good morning Shane, I too love landscape photos. Maldon is a lovely place to visit.

Our cameras are Cannon and we have faith in them to always take a fabulous photo. Our friend who is a photographer uses Cannon as well.

    Happy Blue Monday.

  7. If you are looking for a small point and shoot digital with a great zoom, I recommend my Canon SX 170 HS -- I can't remember if you asked, but I'll tell you again. I'm in love! These are lovely!

  14. Lovely photos, Shane. I have a Canon that I adore. It is my first DSLR and I've yet to put in the hours to properly learn all the settings but I already notice an improvement in my photos.

  15. What a pretty town is Maldon, like many gold rush towns. We have been in the vicinity, but never visited. One to put on the list. I will be interested to hear about your camera. I also use a point and shoot, but it is discontinued. xx

  16. Loved seeing your brilliant photos of places you've visited. You certainly have an eye for taking interesting shots. Don't rush into buying an upgraded camera, I did this when I started my blog a few years ago, It depends on how you want to use the camera, if it's for quick shots when you're out and about. I'd say keep to a point and shoot but with a higher pixel density. I have gone back to using my Panasonic/Lumix DMC-TZ 4 aim and shoot as I find I take better shots with it, & it's easy to have in my pocket. I am toying with going to an upgrade point and shoot. and leave the other upgraded camera to my husband to fiddle with lenses. I'd love to know what you choose.

  17. Hello, I enjoy seeing the old buildigns and landscapes. Pretty views. I like my canon sx40, it is like a point & shoot but with great zoom. Enjoy your day!

  18. Even with your point and click camera, your pictures are both interesting and lovely.

  19. Dearest Shane,
Well, you certainly can upgrade your camera, ANY camera that is. But if it is only for a hobby, to capture a fond moment of our lives... we have to think about it.
The reason I say this is that over the past weeks I've noticed the tremendous improvement of cameras over the decades as I'm scanning our old photos from the 80s.
We always have to keep that in mind. What is the purpose and what do we want to preserve...
Still, those less than perfect old cameras did capture some very special moments that are dear to our hearts because the people in them are no longer with us on earth... Everything eventually will fade out!
Wishing you a happy week and sending you hugs,
    Mariette

  20. I am not one to give advice on cameras, as anyone can tell from my blog posts! I use my phone or my little Canon point and shoot. The Great Dane has a very complicated multi-lens camera and it is just too much work. I am always 'in the moment' and would rather just snap - but I certainly appreciate the beautiful photos I see when people take the time to compose and use the correct lens.

  21. The main street of that town looks so quiet and peaceful to me. We used to say "They roll up the sidewalks after supper". lol Good luck with your search for a camera. It's a tough decision.

  22. I can envision an old-time western movie being filmed on that street!

  23. Have fun selecting a new camera. I am a Canon girl, but Nikon and other brands are good too. One thing to think of if you get a camera that takes separate lens is that at some time you decide to once again upgrade you will want to stick with the same brand as you can still use the same lens's. I learned that when I upgraded last year. Actually my Canon point and shoot has such a good lens on it I will take only that with my next adventure because it is light to carry in my bag. My big girl camera will stay home. Len's do make a difference for sure.

  24. Hi Shane,

I have Canon 60D, which I am really satisfied with. If I were you, I would buy some good lenses. I think they as important as the body itself. Perhaps even a bit more!

    Good luck on your buy!
