Anzac Day 2016

Anzac Day occurs on the 26th April.

It marks the anniversary of the landing of the

Australian and New Zealand soldiers

known as the 

ANZACS

on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey

during the First World War in 1915.

On this day we commemorate all New Zealanders

and Australians

killed in war and we honour

our returned servicemen and women.

The War Memorial Museum

is the venue for our

Anzac Day Memorial Service in Auckland.

There are services in every city and small town

throughout New Zealand

and Australia.

Gathering the moments - APRIL 2014

This year is moving far too fast for me!

I've reached that stage in life
where I'm quite happy for time to stand still at times
so I can capture and fully enjoy the
very special moments
that make up the rhythm of life.
 I want to commit these moments to memory forever
so in years to come I can look back and recall
I remember when..... 

It was a month of of seasonal happenings.
We had Easter - our most important feast
in the Church's year
celebrating the Resurrection of
Christ our Saviour.

Then on 25th April - Anzac Day

commemorating the soldiers of the

Australian and New Zealand Army Corps

who fought in WW1 and WW2

side by side

in far away lands

for God, King and Country.

'Seamist'

We bought this old classic launch last year

and my husband 'The Yachtie'  is restoring it...

a labour of love!

The interior has been ripped out and he is

more or less starting from scratch!

We know the hull has 'good bones'

so she was worth saving.

She will be re-launched pre Christmas 2014

in time for Summer cruising!

ANZAC DAY APRIL 25

Australian and New Zealand Army Corps

Anzac Day - 25 April

is a national day of remembrance

when we commemorate all

New Zealanders and Australians

"who served and died in all wars, 

conflicts, and peacekeeping operations."

It is a national holiday in both our countries.

Our soldiers have fought alongside

and supported each other in all

the wars we have taken part in.

This has created a strong bond between

our two countries.

There are rememberance services held in

every city and small town throughout

New Zealand

starting with the first service at dawn

and another at 11am in the main centres.

It is a tradition in most families

to make Anzac biscuits on this day.

Originally these rolled oats biscuits were

made and sold at fetes and galas

to raise funds for the war effort.

I made a batch of these biscuits today

as I do every Anzac Day and here is the recipe!

a staple cooking bible found in every Kiwi home!

I hope you are able to buy Golden Syrup.

There is an english one called Lyall's Golden Syrup.

My daughter can buy this at her

Carrefour supermarket in France.
