Exquisite Hand Made Lace

When I visited the
Auckland Vintage Textile Fair
I was enthralled by these
exquisite hand made lace samplers.

I am full of admiration for the women
such as our grandmothers,
great-grandmothers and great aunts
who created this fine work.

It took many hours to make one small piece
such as a collar and cuffs
for a special dress.

I imagine much of this work was done by
poor lamp light in the evening
once their hard days work was done.

I have several pieces of precious
hand made lace which I will
pass on to my granddaughters and
I hope they will appreciate it's beauty
as much as I do.

A Sweet little Bag for Stella

Before I travelled to France last time
I made this cute little bag
out of grey and white ticking with
a band of floral vintage looking fabric.
It was for my granddaughter's birthday!

I tucked all sorts of yummy bits and bobs inside
for her to find.

All my granddaughters love pretty feminine
things - just as all little (and big) girls do!
So I added some frou frou in the way
of a rose which I made out of seam binding.

A vintage doily on the back.

Some little buttons too!

I added a long strap so it could be worn
over her shoulder.

Bloggy Sunshine Package and a Lesson

I want to show you these exquisite pieces created by my blog friend
Karen of Todolwen.

Karen had issues with her blog late last year.
While working behind the scenes on her blog she decided
to make a few changes - one was her URL.
WARNING: NEVER EVER CHANGE YOUR URL
This resulted in her blog disappearing totally.... imagine the stress
involved! Luckily she knew the person to turn to -
Karen of Valentine Design
Todolwen is up and running again but what a lesson to us all!

Karen emailed some of her followers and asked if we would
put her "NEW" blog button on our blogs - which I did.

To say thank you Karen sent me a packet of her gorgeous
little crocheted flowers, hearts and flutter-bys.
A sunshine package I call it!

I photographed them on a vintage silk table cloth
aren't they beautiful.

Please pop over to Karen's blog here and if you were one of her
previous followers you will want to re-join!
If you enjoy doing creative things she shares her amazing
tutorials and they are FREE.

Here is the link to her free felted nest tutorial.

Just look at these violets with smiling faces - I will be using them
in collage pages and banners I'm currently working on.
Thank you Karen for your precious gifts!

I'm joining these parties
Karen for Sunlit Sunday
Mary for Mosaic Monday
Becky for Blissful Whites Wednesday

Thank you dear friends for your sweet comments!

My heart skipped beats.....

~ A magical gift ~

Hello dear friends!

As the title of this post says
"my heart skipped beats"
the day I received a wonderful parcel from
my dear blogging friend
Mary.

I have followed her lovely blog
for a few years.
She writes about her home and garden,
 her amazing travel exploits
often to quite remote destinations

An exquisite grey heart

and also about her visits
to antiquey shops/flea markety places
you know what I mean!!!

I've always wanted some fairy dust!

I left a comment on one of those posts
which sparked an idea for Mary
and the result was
this beautiful gift she sent me
quite out of the blue!

a beautiful collection of tags

vintage linen and exquisite bobbin lace

Everything in the parcel is divine,
telling me that over the years she
has got to know me very well!
 THANK YOU
dear Mary - you have filled my heart with
JOY
"I'm over the moon and dancing on air"!

So to celebrate - I'm joining these parties

and

Michelle for Grey Dey Thursdey
