I've been under the weather for almost week.
I caught the dreaded viral flu from one of my work colleagues.
He told us all that it was a viral flu and therefore not contagious - not so.......
I've been in bed most of the time
taking all the potions I could lay my hands on
and sending my dear one out to the chemist for extra supplies
as the need arose!
This is the first day I've felt like getting up and doing anything
constructive.
Luckily I had all my photos for this post edited and ready to go!
My husband was late planting our vege garden this year.. for various reasons
but we are starting to reap the benefits of his hard work.
I picked 2 beans last week - not much one can do with so few
except snap-freeze and wait for more to come!

These are Scarlet Runners - still our favourites after 47 years!
The Gardener here insists on growing Beefsteak tomatoes every year,
they are good eating and particularly good for preserving and freezing.
I usually make several batches of Pasatta
to use as a base in Ratatouille, Lasagne and other Autumn/Winter dishes.
However I enjoy the the small cherry tomatoes
sometimes they're called grape or plum tomatoes.
Wonderful for adding to salads.
My Gardener planted one plant but sadly
it was the only tomato plant that curled up it's toes - wouldn't you know it!!!!

Take care and
be kind to one another
à bientôt
Shane
Thank you all for popping in to say hello
I know time is precious in the business of our lives!
Look after yourself with lots of care. Boost that immune system with good healthy fruit. I always enjoy your blog, even if I do not comment. Keep on keeping on.
ReplyDeleteTake Care. I just am getting over that flu virus too. I was down too for about a week. Not fun. Hope you start to feel better.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
Kris
So very sorry you have been down with a flu virus Shane, they can really take a toll on one's system. So glad you have been getting good care from your love! Hopefully you are on the mend now and will soon be much, much better.
ReplyDeleteYour tomatoes look really good - and yes, ratatouille is always so good summer or winter - I've been make my pasatta from Italian plum tomatoes through the winter but am looking forward to fresh picked ones from the Farmers' Market in the months to come. Just 2 beans made me laugh, but as you say there will be more to harvest soon.
Get well, know I'm thinking of you and sending good thoughts and warm wishes across those many, many miles.
Hugs and love - Mary x
Dear Shane,
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to read of your illness. There's a nasty flu bug going around everywhere - even across the Pacific, apparently! Do take good care of yourself and don't try to do too much until you are fully well again.
Garden produce is the best! I hope the Scarlet runner beans start to earn their keep a little more as time goes on.
Sending healing thoughts across the water.
Lorrie
I am so sorry to hear that you caught a nasty bug, Shane. It sounds like you are inching toward recovery.....just don't try to do too much!
ReplyDeleteThose tomatoes are gorgeous. NY plants didn't get enough heat last summer so I ended up doing lots with green tomatoes. Thus year I'll try another location and hope for a nice red crop!
Glad you are on the mend now Shane - flu is rotten at any time of year but particularly so during the summer months - it looks as if you are going to have a lovely crop from your runner beans.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you have had a virus, they leave you feeling very weak, so take it easy for a while.
ReplyDeleteFeel better soon..the good thing about some ailments..they pass:) You are so lucky to have a gardener!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear you have been sick. Hope you are feeling better real soon. Enjoyed this post your photos are great. Have a blessed day and please take care of yourself. Madeline
ReplyDeleteWe used to always plant Beefsteak tomatoes too - and I, like you, had to have a cherry tomato plant too. With those it always seems like feast or famine - either you get a dud plant (or it dies) or you get enough tomatoes to feed the neightbours to the point where they hide when they see you coming. So sorry you've been on the ailing list!
ReplyDeleteSo fantastic to grow your own runner beans and tomatoes. I love the tiny ones best too, but any tomato is a good thing, imo. Sorry to hear about the flu, which does hang on and make life a misery. I think it is trying to get me too, not sure yet... Have a lovely week Shane.
ReplyDeleteIs it not too early for runner beans? I've got some to plant and have been holding off, I suppose I could probably get away with it here in Spain
ReplyDeleteno fun to get sick from someone else:( Hope you're feeling better. Great photos and I am anxiously awaiting for Spring to arrive here so I will have blooms, and veggies from the garden again:)
ReplyDeleteHome-grown veg is so much tastier than shop-bought, I think, and full of goodness to help your recovery. I hope you feel better soon. x
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear about your flu. Golly, a nasty cold knocked me flat for a week -- I can't imagine how wretched you feel with the flu! I hope by now it is much improved. Certainly the beautiful photos you shared are healing in their loveliness! Get well!
ReplyDeleteWonderful tomatoes, I like the Beefsteak as well. My husband likes Moneymaker. Our supply this year for some reason is pitiful. Can't even think about sauces or relish. We had a wonderful lot of scarlet runners as well. Have grown them for many years and sometimes the French bean.Shane I hope you are well on the road to recovery, flu is a nasty debilitating illness. What's with our season this year, terrible Summer. Take care and look forward to reading further posts. Envy the boating. We were boaties in the Marlborough Sounds years ago.
ReplyDeleteMy "live-in gardener" plants scarlett runners every year that grow all over our grandsons play house, then he picks the beans and takes them home to eat or we cook them for him at our house. He loves them. Oh for a fresh tomato, I can't wait for summer for them.
