Are you a Downton Abbey fan like me?
What an absolute joy it has been to
have a worthwhile program to watch.
Summer in New Zealand,
is the time when television is at it's worst.
We are subjected to a tedious selection of
re-runs of every program under the sun!

Until the much awaited two-part series
The Downton Christmas Special
graced our screens in the past two weeks.
It was a breath of fresh air to enjoy
Julian Fellowes Edwardian drama
with such a stellar cast of actors
back in our living room again!!!

I'm not going to divulge too much
as some of you may not have seen it yet
and I would hate to spoil it for you.
Suffice to say, you will LOVE it!!
They're all here....
the lovely Crawley sisters,
although we didn't see Lady Sybil
as she and Branston are now in Ireland!
But we were treated to this elegant trio
of outstanding actors.
Handsome Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), with his mother
the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith) and the
very elegant Lady Cora (Elizabeth McGovern).
Lady Cora and Mr Carson (Jim Carter)

Such elegance!
I must confess I've not even seen a glimpse of this but heard such good things about it. You have now prompted me to do something about this and see if I can do catch up. Suzy x
ReplyDeleteLove this series.
ReplyDeleteAlways provides much needed escapism.
I don't post about it though as that might spoil things for others who haven't seen it.
Christmas seems ages ago.
No snow then, but we have some now!
:)
Hope you're well.
I think summer television is the same everywhere, simply bad :(
ReplyDeleteI love Downton Abbey, and we were lucky to see the Christmas Special all on the same night, at Christmas, of course :), which made Christmas even more special. It is something UK television is good at, costume dramas. I hope Julian Fellowes will write more as good as Downton Abbey. His new series Titanic is due on TV this spring.
Ooh, it looks wonderful! You must read Shirley's post! Titantic!!
ReplyDeleteCurrently we're watching Series Two and I'm loving it even more than Series One! Hope so much we get the Christmas Special too. Know Series Three is going to be made starting soon - fabulous news!
ReplyDeleteQuality TV like this is usually the only TV I watch, the rest is bilge! We rent movies and British TV drama series from Netflix here - I never watch many prime time American made programs - but I do love nature programs on the educational TV.
Happy weekend - hugs Mary
I've just finished watching Season One and can hardly wait to start on Season Two. Then the Christmas Special. Oh what a delightful show. And I have to watch it again, just to pay attention to the costumes and decor.
ReplyDeleteWe love this series too, such elegance!
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying myself, reading your lovely blog - a feast for the eyes! I love the costumes on Downton Abbey - oh to have a rummage in the costume department!

A wonderful post dear Shane. My daughter and I love Downton Abbey and always talk about what happened the next day.
ReplyDeleteI have pulled a muscle in my back this morning and it's excruciating! You've cheered me up!
Hugs xx
I have just begun watching this series and am so sad I missed it from the beginning! I was hooked from the first couple of minutes I saw.
ReplyDeleteDear Shane, we had the first part of this wonderful series shown in Danish television, and I would love to see this second special part too--who knows ,maybe we are lucky. But thankyou for those wonderful photoes from the Edwardian aera with all it`s lovely clothing and living, at least when it came to the upper classes :)
ReplyDeleteHugs and happy sunday to you dear-
Dorthe

When I saw your post, I thought "why didn't I see the Christmas special here in CO"? Then it dawned on me that you are seeing something we haven't seen as yet. SOOOOO, I didn't look! I peeked. Oh I love Downton Abbey so much and just saw Series 2, Part 6 today. SO much has happened including deaths and jail time! I can't wait until next week! AND the Christmas Special (when it gets here).
ReplyDeleteHugs to you and Happy Valentines Day!

I adore Downton Abbey and am looking forward to our turn to see the Christmas edition. Right now we are in the midst of viewing season two here in California.
ReplyDeleteA Christmas Special! Whoo hoo!! Thank you for the heads up of more excitement to come.
ReplyDeleteJust checking if 'word verification' is turned off!!!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI thought it was but I made a comment just to make sure!!!!!
Shane
We see it tonight (though I've had a preview DVD for three weeks and have valiantly avoided watching it to "scoop" my viewing!) I love this series and so excited it will continue next year. Didn't know about Nigel joining the cast -- hope he returns! I am so hooked -- I'm sure you've seen a lot of the fun links ('what they look like in real life' is a fun one and so are the Downton Paper Dolls!) If you haven't I can send you a bunch -- I'm collecting them for work! Email me and let me know! Cannot wait for tonight!
ReplyDeleteThe new season begins in January in the U.S. Will you see it then as well? I LOVE the show!!! Another thing in common with my new friend! =) ~Sally
