French Country Diary - New Years Eve 2018!

This was my 2018 diary.
I've had a French Country Diary for years.
It's more for my desk as it is too large
to carry in a handbag.

I add my family and friends birthdays, anniversaries
and special occasion days.

I also buy a small pocket diary
which goes everywhere with me!
I'm ruled by my diary and couldn't live without one.
I'm also an inveterate list person,
I imagine you may have guessed that if you've
read thus far - bless you!
No longer can I rely on my memory - oh dear!

I use a calendar for appointments
for my husband and I
such as the usual doctor, dentist, hairdresser etc.

Are you a diary person like me?
Or are you like my son who uses his mobile phone
for everything, including his diary.

My love affair with France continues
and on every other page of this diary
are alluring photographs of everything French
which whet my appetite deliciously!

Wishing all my blog friends
A very Happy New Years Eve
Take care and
be kind to one another
à bientôt

Shane

  1. Ahhh, yes, you will be among the first to welcome in 2019. A lovely New Year’s Eve to you and a very blessed 2019.

No, I have never kept a diary as you are describing here. I do keep a calendar on the fridge as my tickler file. My sister just showed me her new plan book for 2019. She says she loves her phone, but she is not keeping her stuff on it and vastly prefers to write it down in her calendar plan book just as she has always done. Guess that the two of you would be in agreement on this.

    1. I've used a diary for longer than I care to remember Vee!
I make copious notes some days and then nothing for days - I often look back to find a phone number or address!
Enjoy your New Years Eve and wishing you a very Happy and Healthy 2019!

  2. Dearest Shane,
Lovely diary you kept for 2018.
Up through 2004 I've kept a diary, last ones were the leather bound ones and I loved them.
Then I quit doing it and keep now most on my Mac's calendar and like it.
Wishing you a happy New Year's Eve and a Happy New Year!

    1. Most of my friends are with you and use their phone or computer!
I've always loved typography and writing writing so maybe it goes hand in hand with keeping a diary!
Love to you both for 2019 dear Mariette.

  3. I simply couldn't live without my calendar - if it's not written in there it just doesn't happen. Mine, however, is not nearly as pretty as yours! Happy new year my friend!

    1. That's my philosophy MA! For the first time in our lives we are not partying on New Years Eve!
We had a roast chicken dinner and a couple of glasses of good wine.
We've been watching The Edinburgh Military Tattoo on TV but we're off to bed as we can't keep awake.... sad!
So wishing you health and happiness in 2019 dear Mary Anne.
      Hugs

  4. What a lovely diary, Shane. Do you keep them from year to year? They would be a good memento of the days, and so beautiful, too. I tried using a desk diary last year for the first time, with uncertain success. I wasn't disciplined enough to write everything down that I should have. I will try again for 2019 and hopefully it will become a habit. When I try to remember things, I'm sure to forget appointments. Notes on the fridge are sometimes useful, but one must remember to write them.
I don't like using my phone calendar at all.

Wishing you a most happy 2019, Shane, with much love from Canada! We're some of the last people to ring in the new year and you are some of the first! hugs, Lorrie

    1. Yes I do keep my old diaries, however as we are looking for a new house, I need to declutter and that will include old diaries!
I've enjoyed being in touch with you this year, mainly through IG!
Wishing you, your husband and family health and happiness in 2019.

  5. Dear Shane,

Yes, I am a diary person and have had the French country diary before, which I have loved. this year I have a pretty pale pink Kikki K diary with my initials monogrammed in rose gold on the front.
I like this diary as it is leather and has a whole page which I can write lots of things.
Happy New Year dear Shane and wishing you and your family all the very best for 2019
    Hugs

  6. A beautiful diary to have. I do not use my mobile phone for anything except the basics (taking photos and keeping in touch and IG, of course). :) I aim every year to keep a journal but often jail so I will try once again to make it a daily habit. Definitely need to make lists to remind myself of things to do and people to remember. Wishing you and yours much peace, joy and love.

  8. What a beautiful diary, Shane. I have never seen one like that, but what a joy to use it every day. I always write everything up on a calendar on the kitchen wall - so old-fashioned! Have tried to remember to use the phone calendar, but don't like using it at all. As I age, I too find it necessary to write many lists and reminders - perhaps I need a French Country diary too! Happy New Year dear Shane. xx

You would love the French Country Diary but maybe there's a similar Canadian one which has all their special dates in it!?
Happy New Year to you both - who knows what's in store for us all this year!

  9. Dear Shane - when I mislay my diary it is a major panic, I just can't live without it. I keep my old ones too, and it is surprising how often I use them to check out past events etc. I am a list maker too, shopping, travel, presents, how do people manage without a list?
Best wishes to you and your family Shane and enjoy a very happy 2019.

    1. Oh I can relate to that Rosemary!
In fact my son often says to me "Have you found it yet Ma! It seems I'm forever 'looking' for one thing or another ha ha!
My daughter is an inveterate list maker now too!
Wishing you and your family a happy and healthy 2019 dear Rosemary.

  10. I write it down. With a pen. On paper. In a book. I don't carry one with me, but do have a lovely art calendar/diary on my desk. Couldn't live without it. And no, I don't do it on the phone (I don't have that kind of phone) or computer. Just paper. My friend!

Happy New Year, Shane and may the new year bring us all many more of your lovely posts!

I'm sure you will have some creative workshops this year - you're not a person to remain static. I find the winter months are my time to be creative and summer is all about outdoor pursuits!

  11. I always used to have that same diary and kept many of them. My phone is so antiquated that it doesnt even take photos, let alone make lists! I have three diaries, one by the hall phone, one on my desk and a small handbag one. The problem is remembering to not things in all of them!

  12. My husband has a phone like yours - his is a Nokia. The old one he had for years died a few months ago and he bought a cheap Vodafone one - however it was too difficult for him use. Luckily a friend told us where to get a new Nokia - he is happy as a sand boy as it is identical to the old one. It will see him out!

  16. I love your French diary. I also still love anything French. And definitely I am a list person and need to refer to my calendar every day. Then I type out a list that is right in front of me at the computer for a daily plan for a week. By the end of the week it has scribbles and note all over it for the next week. Happy New Year dear Shane!
