Happy Valentines 2011

This would have  to be my
dream destination.....

A cruise around the
mediterranean
culminating in
Valentine's day
14th February
in Venice

Venice just oozes romance to me

 a gondola ride in the
moonlight....

 and in the daylight too!
Forget the
red roses
and the chocolates....
just give me
a night in Venice!

Thank you all for popping into my blog,

I love reading your comments
be kind to one another and
love life!!!

Preparations are well under way!!

I've been in the attic today
sorting through boxes
of books.

I thought my little
granddaughters might
enjoy reading this one.
It's all about
fairies and little people!
My godmother gave
it to me when I was
a little girl!
If you want to see the detail
just click on the pictures.

The illustrations are
exquisite
and the words are
quite magical too...
I can't wait to read it to them!
(they arrive in 9 days)!!!

This was one of
my favourite books
and my darling father
would read it to me
nearly every night,
then I would study
the pictures in detail before
I fell asleep....

and oh how I wanted
to eat these
delicious looking
cakes..
I think the girls and I
should have a tea party
just like this -
would you like to come too!?

I remember how I particularly
loved this mermaid page

'Fun under the Sea'
is the title of the
mermaid story

cooking dinner under the tree
looked such fun too

And so to bed...
the little slippers
ready for the morning...

My copy of
Pegs Fairy Book
is now 60 years old
and I still think it's
a magical read!!!

Hundertwasser art

We stopped in Kawakawa
when we were up north.
It's very much like
any other small country town
(image from here

apart from the public toilets.....

(image from here)

 which were designed by
Friedrich Hundertwasser
an Austrian painter
and architect who lived
in Kawakawa for 25 years.

It's a great place
to break the journey,
enjoy a cup of coffee
and then visit
the toilets!!

I had to be patient
and wait for the crowds
to disperse so I could
take my photos!

The ladies entrance on the right

I'll let the photos
speak for themselves

I wish there were more
quirky public buildings
like these.
It's a bit like in
Alice and Wonderland
where nothing
is quite as it seems!!
